Ahhhh... That's very useful. I see that Cocoa Bindings Programming Topics -> How Do Bindings Work -> The Supporting Technologies in Detail -> NSEditor/NSEditorRegistration attempts to mention that. It's not quite as clear as your single sentence though. :-)
