Hi Thomas,

ImageIO is not extensible, so far as I know, except that I know it
will fall back to QuickTime in some cases, and I'm not sure if the
fallback types might be determined dynamically.

Cocoa has filter services, but I'm not familiar with them.  I'll
probably need to be at some point.
