Setting "Open With" program/file association programmatically (command line or script)

Hello,

How would one bind an application to a given file type programmatically?

The normal method is to select a file of the type, choose "get Info", then "open with" and select an application to always open the file type with.

What I would like to know is if it possible to do so either using code, from the command line or via applescript.

Thanks in advance.

Pierre
