The bundle's QuickLook folder - I do not have a QL Generator, I just write an image to /QuickLook/Thumbnail.jpg when the document (package) is saved. I can also load this image directly and I am now doing so if the thumbnail creation fails, though it doesn't look as nice. I haven't found out yet whether this fallback succeeds in the cases where the thumbnail creation fails.
