Hello Cocoa and QTKit developers,
Just a short announcement to the mailing list about the availability
of three new and updated QTKit developer docs for you to take a look
at, with the worldwide release of Snow Leopard:
• The "QTKit Application Tutorial" (70 pages in PDF) at
<http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/QTKitApplicationTutorial/Introduction/Introduction.html
>
The doc is aimed at beginning or newbie QTKit and Cocoa programmers,
and focuses on how to build, extend and customize your media player
applications, as well as how to work with the methods and classes in
QTKit capture.
• The "QTKit Application Programming Guide" (66 pages in PDF) at
<http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/QTKitApplicationProgrammingGuide/Introduction/Introduction.html
>
Notably, the last chapter in the doc, "Adopting QuickTime X For
Playback," discusses how to modify your existing QTKit code to take
advantage of this new media architecture for more efficient, high-
performance playback. The other chapters describe the QTKit software
architecture, class hierarchy and provide a number of use-case
programming examples. Be sure to check out the section that discusses
"Monitoring Load States," as this is important for all QTKit
developers to know and understand.
• The "QTKit Reference" (317 pages in PDF) at
<http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/QuickTime/Reference/QTCocoaObjCKit/index.html
>
The reference doc describes the 23 classes and over 400 methods that
comprise the QTKit API -- updated for Snow Leopard (Mac OS X v10.6).
If you have any comments or feedback on these docs, please use the
form at the bottom of each HTML page to report it. I'll be updating/
fixing/modifying the docs accordingly, as new feedback comes in.
Expect to see in the next few months the last doc in the QTKit doc
suite, namely, the "QuickTime X Playback Cookbook." The doc is based
on two new code samples, the MyMediaPlaylist and MyMediaPlayer -- Full
Screen. The latter code sample is referenced in the "QTKit Application
Programming Guide" and is available for download at <http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/samplecode/MyMediaPlayer/index.html
>. It illustrates how to modify your existing QTKit code and opt into
the new, high-performance playback capabilities available in QuickTime
X, as well as how to deal with monitoring load state.
