Are there any abstractions in Cocoa to open and handle Exel and PowerPoint files?

Well, there are ways to read and write excel files - look on sourceforge for libxls and xlslib (the first library can read an .xls file, and xlslib can write one). I contribute to the first and support the second.


I have an unpublished cocoa framework (to be released any day now :-) ) that uses the xlslib source to create .xls files - if you want to test it let me know.
