Well, then I'm out of ideas. It may be that they're using UTF8String instead of fileSystemRepresentation on their string internally, or do a million other things, but it seems it's a bug in the application doing the searching, and if you don't have the source to that, you're out of luck. Report it to the authors, and hope they fix it.
