The function glReadPixels produces garbage on Intel GMA X3100 graphics with Mac OS X 10.6.5 using CAOpenGLLayer. This is the only configuration that has a problem.

Does anyone have any insight as to what is going on?

This is a big deal for my application so I did further testing.

PASS - glReadPixels/CAOpenGLLayer
    21" iMac 10.6.5 ATI Radeon HD 4670
    27" iMac 10.6.5 ATI Radeon HD 4670
Mac Pro 10.6.5 ATI Radeon 5770
    MacBook 10.5.8 Intel GMA 950
    MacBook 10.5.8 Intel GMA X3100
    eMac 10.5.8 ATI Radeon 7500

FAIL - glReadPixels/CAOpenGLLayer
    13" MacBook Pro 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce 320M
15" MacBook Pro 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce GT 330M/Intel HD Graphics
17" MacBook Pro 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce GT 330M/Intel HD Graphics
    13" MacBook Air 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce 320M
    15" MacBook Air 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce 320M
    MacBook 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce 320M
Mac Mini 10.6.5 NVIDA GeForce 320M
    MacBook 10.6.5 Intel GMA X3100

Conclusion from testing:

Leopard works with ATI or Intel graphics.

Snow Leopard works with ATI graphics.

Snow Leopard fails with NVIDA or Intel graphics.
