[self frame].size.width reporting incorrectly

I'm using NSLog(@"%f", [self frame].size.width); from within my NSTextField subclass to check the width of the text field (pretty standard stuff). But for some reason, its reporting incorrectly. See this video to see what I mean:

I have it NSLogging the width when the size of the text field changes (multiple text fields in this case, as you can see from the video. There is a text field inside each "bubble"). You can visibly see that the width of the text fields are changing, yet it still reports the same width (185.0). This seems to be pretty basic stuff, is there something I'm missing here?
