Hi John,

not to question your own algorithms, but you may also want to
consider checking the MAC address (ethernet)

I see what you are saying but I want to keep specific hardware out of the equation. I want to be able to swap a new Mac Mini in at any time. The computer name is a convenience - not mission critical. if it breaks, that's fine.

Also, simply taking a user ID system to identify a user and hiding the
sale in progress from others is more reliable like with any web
commerce site.

Perhaps I'm missing your point but the sales staff don't log in to the App. Nor do they want to. They can walk up to any available machine and create a sale and another staff member can even butt in in the middle of the process. They can even "move" a live sale to another machine (don't ask).

Down the road they might ID themselves with a barcode but right now that would be solving a problem that doesn't exist.

I don't know if you need the data in real time, but you can also
generate logs and parse local logs for particular activities as well.

I log things right and left but why would I want to parse? To look for sale creation and status and act on that? That's not enticing.

It's still admirable and user-friendly to attempt to refer to the
computer name properly for the end user. Love it when people keep it
about the users.

Thanks. I've tried to be like water in this project. Whatever my client wants, they get, my nudgings not withstanding.

Cheers,

Steve
