It's only anonymous/inline to you.  "sortedArrayUsingComparator:" is declared like this:

- (NSArray *)sortedArrayUsingComparator:(NSComparator)cmptr

This means that inside the implementation of this method, "cmptr" refers to the block, and will be invoked like this:

cmptr(object1, object2);
