There are at least 5 password variants of the DTP22 instrument. All of
them say DTP22 on the bottom, but are easy to identify by what is
printed on the case... DTP22, CA22, Graphic Arts Spectro, Digital
Swatchbook, LaserMaster... of these only the CA22 has no password, and
each is shipped with their own set of specifications. All but the
LaserMaster should work with X-Rite's ColorShop software however, which
has a demo available at our website.

At the time the instrument was first released by X-Rite, they had two
variants: one for OEM systems (which they called the "DTP22") and the
other
for unbundled sale (which they called the "Digital Swatchbook"). From a
programming point of view (i.e. writing software to control the
instrument)
a valid password must be sent through the driver to the instrument in
order
for it to work. Different passwords were used for each of the two
variants,
so they were not interchangeable. I do not know how long these two
versions
were maintained (maybe they still are), but I suppose this might be the
cause of your trouble, given your description. Just a guess, though. I
don't
know how to visually tell them apart.
