Hi all,
I am a digital photographer using photoshop 6 and have a somewhat imperfect
knowledge of colorsync. I am attempting to scan my images using a
nikon ls-2000 into a colour space that will preserve the greatest amount
of information from my E6 transparencies as possible (for now and future
use). Until recently i was scanning to the Nikon supplied colour space
called Apple RGB (compensated) in 16 bit mode. Then i met up with an old
professor of mine who mentioned Joe Holmes' Ektaspace and the kodak
ProPhotoRGB space. I typically edit my images in PS6, and output proofs via
an epson 1280. Ultimately i intend to use the 1280 with the cone editions
Piezo colour pigments to produce fine art prints. I also output to a Mirus
35mm film recorder (an RGB CRT type). I may be outputting to some other
larger format archival system and larger film formats (4x5 or 8x10 - laser
film printers) but that would be a service bureau thing. So here are my
questions:
1. Where do i find profiles for Joe Holmes' Ektaspace and Kodak's
ProPhotoRGB space?
2. What is the best space to use for maximum information preservation?
3. What is the best space for use when editing in RGB or for that matter Lab?
4. What would be the correct methodology for scanning my images so that
they end up in the desired space?
5. Is there anyone out there who has a fundamental understanding of
colorsync, profiles and the way images are interpreted via colorsync in PS6
that would be willing to have an in depth conversation with me about it
all?.... Please, Please?
Any insight anyone can provide into profiles and the actual fundamental
process by which an RGB image is brought into a colour space from a device.
would be exceptional. I would like to have a good mental model in place so
that I can make educated choices about my colour management work flow.
Thanks everyone
william
Best regards
William Oldacre
