- Ability to zoom in the preview window (and have it re-scan that area at
a higher resolution when needed)
- Full ColorSync support (assign a source profile, display using monitor
profile)
- Full set of editing controls (bright, contrast, gamma, levels, curves,
HSL, white/black/mid point, etc). Of course, should be divvied up somehow
between normal controls and advanced controls. Don't want to overwhelm
beginning users.
- Support for high-bit scans.
- For novice users, a UI that lets them describe what they are scanning
(photo, magazine, etc) and what it's intended use is (www, print, etc).
Clicking those controls would choose an appropriate depth, resolution, and
descreen (if needed).
- Resizeable preview window (surprising how often you don't get that).
- Save to disk in any QuickTime supported format (not just PICT, JPEG,
TIFF).
