Does it? They probably can overprint, yet not in all file formats but if
they color manage overprints this would be interesting.

Just check out www.absolute-proof.com an amazing Mac product and IT IS
NOT A RIP. It merges plate data together (ROOM) to allow for the
simulation of "Overprint / Trap". You will see everything! And YES the
whole process is color managed via Colorsync.
