Only one setting is hard-wired into Match and I think (but I'm not sure)
it's Preserve Gray Axis. I think it should be Paper Gray Axis and this may
be why you got the results you did (or Chris did) at PMA (or was it
Seybold). You WILL NOT get good neutrals in some cases with Preserve Gray
Axis and a Perceptual intent depending on the paper/printer combo. For some
reason, using that setting with a Relative Colorimetric intent will produce
MUCH better neutrals. I suspect there is a bug lurking (and I'd love to hear
if others using PMP Pro or Match have seen this)!
So, with Match, use a Relative Colorimetric Intent if you get warm neutrals
OR if you have PMP Pro, use the options to build a profile with Paper Gray
axis. If you have a paper with a significant color to it, you'll have to
try both.
I recently tested Monaco's new Proof 3.5 and it too has two options for
paper gray so this is a feature being found in more products. Last time I
built a profile with ColorBlind 4.0, I was asked again about picking an
option for paper gray. Bottom line is this option is pretty important and
most users give the choice should build a profile using each setting and see
what works best for them.
