Ink Limiting Hue Shift

I have found two circumstances where limiting ink channels is useful.

1. The first circumstance where limiting individual ink channels is useful is where the inkjet has a much larger gamut than what you matching to. Limiting the inks to approximate the smaller gamut can create a better color match. I have done this with best and with ORIS and in both cases have lowered my average CIE Lab delta e by 1-2.

2, The second circumstance is when setting up an initial linearization on a rip that allows you to recalibrate a printer. If you linearize your printer to full gamut and then profile it you may run into problems later on if you printer looses max density due to mechanical problems or slight changes in the media. When achievable ink densities become lower on devices that were profiled using full gamut linearizations you can't edit the initial linearization and allow the printer to lay down more ink. Instead you must reprofile the printer. If you had limited the ink initially when linearizing you could have just edited the initial linearization to allow more ink to be laid down and then recalibrated.

Hope this is relevant.
