Well, required by who? Not by GretagMacbeth or X-Rite. Printing
devices with only cyan, magenta and yellow colorants do exist. If the
device doesn't have black, there's no need for the target to.
With the particular device I'm working with, I get better results when
I use a CMY target for profiling compared to using an RGB target.
Also, I needed to restrict the total ink limit, which wasn't possible
with PM5's RGB profiling options.

Isn't any target, that is not RGB, required to have a neutral channel?
