I don't know if the newer x800 (4800, 7800, 9800) using the new
Ultrachrome inks use a better black (more neutral with a higher

worth checking into.
The 4000 matte black cart is the same as the 4800 matte black cart so
there's no difference between the matte black inks between 4000 and 4800
and in black only printing the last will be warm too..
Whether a more neutral black ink would be better has to be seen. The
warmer black inks meant a reduced yellow and magenta ink in the mix to
get neutrality and by that less metamerism. The pigment quad inks
available right now are based on a carbon pigment that is warm by
itself. So far the neutral blacks had some toner on the pigment particle
or in the ink mix, more prone to fading than the basic carbon pigment.
The Epson driver for the 9800 etc has an Advanced B&W mode that uses all
the Kkk inks full but adds c, m, Y to get neutrality or a desired hue.
Separate from any normal color management it seems.
For neutral B&W on the 9600 one could spend 50$ for the QTR RIP and get
the same possibility but with the Kk inks + c.m.Y.
