I generally concur with Marco's and Andrew's views on this derailed
discussion.
In the US, the 1960's struggle for civil rights (an issue of
considerably more weight and consequence than the current discussion)
spawned two philosophically opposed strategies. One was led by Martin
Luther King who encouraged a non-violent, peaceful,
sit-with-your-adversaries approach. The other was led by Malcolm X who
encouraged a confrontational, violent, in-your-face approach. In the
end, the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed. And there is little debate
about which approach was most effective in changing the minds of the
entrenched racists in Congress.
When it came to preaching the the choir, Malcolm X carried the day.
When it came to changing history, it was MLK. (It's interesting that
later in his life, Malcolm rejected his own confrontational tactics in
favor of constructive dialog. He realized that there was no value in
alienating your negotiating partner.)
I think what we're seeing is a fundamental difference of philosophy in
this discussion about Adobe. Personally, I'm a MLK man.
