Dale,
first of all: did you open the targets in Photoshop without
Colormanagement?
Second: use the "print with preview"-option (there is only "print"
left in CS3) in Photoshop to print the targets and be sure to choose
"No colormanagement" in the output-options.
In the printerdriver choose the papertype which is closest to yours
(Premium Glossy Photo Paper), turn off colormanagement and within
paper configuration try to limit ink density to app. -15% or -25%.
This should work. Then try to create a profile from the printed
targets and make a reference-printout with it and evaluate
if it is NOW still too dark.

I'm attempting to print some targets (standard 2 page eyeOne) from
my Epson SP3800 onto paper not represented in the collection of
profiles that came with the machine. The paper is Epson's Glossy
Photo Paper (SO41271) which is listed in the Epson Technology
Source Book as compatible with Ultrachrome inks.
When I prepare to send the file to the printer I am given a list of
media types under Print Settings:
PhotoBlack:
Premium Luster Photo Paper
Premium Glossy Photo Paper
Premium Semigloss Photo Paper
Plain Paper - Photo Black
Matte Black:
Enhanced Matte Paper
Archival Matte Paper
Velvet Fine Art Paper (selection greyed out)
Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper (selection greyed out)
WaterClor Paper (selection greyed out)
Photo Quality ink jet paper
Singleweight Matte Paper
Plain Paper - Matte Black
Singleweight Matte Paper (line drawing)
Among the PhotoBlack collection (I am printing to glossy stock),
the only selection that seems to be a match is Premium Glossy Photo
Paper, but when I printed the target, it was unacceptably dark and
therefore unlikely to generate a usable profile.
How do I create custom profiles with such a limited list of media
types as supplied with the SP3800?
Any advice or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dale
