Horsemanure...I would welcome any proof that ANYTHING Adobe has done has had
a negative impact on any photographer's income. If this is the reason for
Mr. Orpen 's dislike of Adobe, he has his head up a real dark place...
See, he's perfectly willing and inclined to blame Adobe for the ills of the
photographic industry but either unwilling or unable to acknowledge that the
ills of the photographic industry are caused by other photographers, not the
purveyors of RF stock. Cause neither the RF stock agents nor "middle-men"
are producers of RF stock photography, photographers are...and rather than
having the balls to go after those people, he blames Adobe as the big bad
corporation.
That dog don't hunt bud...yes, RF is having a real negative impact on the
income of assignment and RM photographers, that don't do RF. But it's
neither the fault of the stock industry nor Adobe that has brought this
about. It's other photographers. And until the photographic industry comes
to grips with the reality that photographers are ruining the photographic
industry, nothing will change for the better.
See, that's where this guy is so misguided...he sees the "enemy" as being
Adobe or the RF stock dealers...and they aren't. The enemy of photographers
are themselves.
Adobe has bent over backwards to try to address the displeasure of
photographers-out of all proportion of the market they represent to Adobe.
But that ain't good enough for Martin.
Course, Martin never mentions what he wants from Adobe...he just slams them
at every opportunity-even if the opportunity is misplaced and misaimed. It
would never occur to him just how foolish he comes off being by being as
obstreperous as he is. He actually thinks he doing some good.
What he doesn't realize is his histrionics only allows cover for the real
problem...
But the RF toothpaste is out of the tube...and it was pushed out by greedy
(and generally less talented) photographers years ago.
Ironically, when I first got into the business, the assignment photographers
were pissin&moaningĀ that STOCK PHOTOGRAPPERS were ruining the assignment
business (they still are).
Martin is a bitter photographer (as can be seen in the manner of his posts)
that sees enemies everywhere but in the mirror.
Thanks goodness he's so over the top and ungracious that the vast majority
will ignore him.
As for the photo industry? Screwem...photographers have steadfastly refused
to ever do the right thing for the industry and have historically always
only done what's best for themselves as individuals. Photographers COULD
organize into a much more powerful organization that could have a positive
impact on the industry, but they can't see the forest for the trees...
You go right ahead and blame Adobe for the ills of the industry doode...that
way the real bad guys will continue to get away with it.
And, for full disclosure, I happen to like what Adobe has done for a variety
of industries-including the photographic industry (which they didn't have to
do). I happen to think efforts such as XMP, DNG and their continued support
of open standards makes them above average corporate citizens. And yes, I
have a lot of friends at Adobe and yes, I derive some income from things
relating to Adobe. I even have some Adobe stock (so when their share price
goes up, it's good for me). So? Wanna make something of it Martin?
I've also spent the better part of my photographic career fighting on behalf
of photographer's rights...fortunately, I've come to my senses of late and
have decided to give that stuff up for my health (like I did smoking)
:~)

Jeff Schewe
