Hi,
I'm trying to turn off Colorsync in a HP laserjet postscript printer
(actually a HP laserjet 5550dn) and the "amazing" printer driver don't
allow me to do it. This driver also is very "clever" and has CMYK and
RGB modes, but you can't figure out if the driver is sending CMYK or RGB
data to the printer. I saw a thread in this forum in 2005 with the
subject "CMYK/RGB printing confusion - please help!"
that help me decide to bypass this fancy driver.
This printer will be used to proof PDF files (totally in CMYK) and I'm
trying to bypass the driver. As the printer is a postcript device, so
I'm planning to apply the color conversion in the PDF using an acrobat
plugin (from Callas Software), transform this PDF to postscript and send
the postscript data direct to the printer, almost like a FTP to the
printer. In other words, I'm building a "poor man RIP" for this printer.
My questions are:
1) Is there any color transformation in the PDF to postscript conversion
using adobe acrobat?
2) Is it possible to use CUPS to send the postscript file to the
printer, also with no color correction?
3) Is there any consequence in removing the |cupsICCProfile| tags in the
printer PPD file? Removing these tags, I'm disabling colorsync in the
printer?
Any ideas or clues are very welcome,
Best regards,
Lorenzo
