If the data in the PDF being printed is CMYK Acrobat has no reason to

According to HP's User Guide, when 'Device' is selected in the driver, it
does not matter if the data is being sent by the free Adobe Reader or Adobe
Acrobat Pro as both apps *do* download the same color data to the printer. I
don't think you need to try to bypass anything at this stage. Put together
some sample CMYK objects in InDesign, export to PDF with 'Leave Color
Unchanged', open and print from Adobe Reader or Acrobat, you can be sure the
data will not be tampered with colorwise.

I'll perform a simple test to better understand the color path. I'll print some well know photos by applying the printer profile using the Callas color plug-in and print through Acrobat Pro. If the color path is right (no hidden color convesions), the colors will be probably ok. I don't believe the colors in the final print would be ok if I apply a CMYK profile and there're some hidden color convesion in the printing process. I believe I'll have to test a lot to overcome this uncertainty in the printer parameters selection....

Best regards and thank you,
Lorenzo
