film ?>
There is a negative of the IT87/3 available I believe, but I don't think
this is going to offer you anything with black and white reproduction
(film type is entirely different, and besides, its B&W). Scanning as a
grayscale or RGB and inverting in Photoshop prior to converting to gray
is the process I've used.
>- What do I use as a working space profile? I've heard about 'grayscale
icc profiles', but I can't find much information (except stuff refering
to Photoshop 5). What are these? Or do I use a profile such as
AdobeRGB?>
Default grayscal profiles exist in current versions of Photoshop ("Dot
Gain" & "Gamma profiles"). Best bet is if you know the final output
intent and have an CMYK ICC profile is to utilize the black ink
information from that profile as the basis for your gray profile. This
can be done in your Photoshop Color Settings by selecting "More Options"
and then "load gray" from your gray workingspace drop-down menu. Then
select the ICC profile that you use for your 4/c work and the black ink
data from that profile creates a new grayscale profile.
>-same thing for final output. Is there a benefit in attaching an icc
profile to a grayscale image for viewing in color managed applications?>
I would definteley reccommend attching your grayscale profile to your
image. Other opeining an untagged image will have their default profile
used to display your image, which could render a very different visual
result on screen than the profile you use.
