When asking my supplier, Colour Confidence
(http://shop.colourconfidence.com), about the 2690 SpectraView they added
the following critical note:
Yes we have seen the SpectraView 2690 - we had one on our stand at Focus at
the beginning of the year - At the end of February 07.
So they have been about for nearly 1 year now, but I have to say not as
popular or as special as this review makes out.
It is not that special any more as there are now other monitors using this
same technology.
Our general view of NEC and this monitor is not good for support - we sold
them to customers since Feb/March 07 but they had problems with the monitor
hoods and we had to take some monitors back from customers who after 6
months had still not been supplied a hood which should have been included.
Apparently they had to change the design of the hoods as they would not stay
on, but 9 months later they still have not fixed the problem and include a
voucher to say the hood will be supplied when available - but after 9 months
this is really unacceptable! And they are still not available with the
monitors.
In comparison, Lacie have had the same monitors (the Lacie 526) available
since March 07 and include a hood which fixes on correctly without any
problems.
If they really want a 26" wide screen - we advise taking the Lacie 526, or
the new Eizo CG241 (only 24" slightly smaller size but newer product and
lower cost).
Or if the customer works with their customers sitting to the side of them to
view and advise on editing, the NEC and Lacie 26" monitors also the Eizo
CG241 and most other widescreen panels (except for the Eizo 221), are not
ideal. They all use display panels that give a different contrast when you
look from a slight angle. So if the user will have their customer also
looking at images from sitting next tot he operator - we then recommend the
Eizo CG221 (or CG211 for standard format, but a smaller gamut)."
