Our approach was to offer activity feedback, while trying to avoid gaudy
flashing by developing a slow pulsing effect similar to a sleeping MacBook. I
can't even read a webpage with animated graphics in the borders, but I have a
Spyder3 pulsing on the side of my screen, on on a stand in front of my main
display, all day and don't ever find my eye being drawn to it. But on the assumption
that opinions will vary, we did put a control in to turn it off...
