Hi List

Apologies for a shameless plug....

I've written an application called viewSIGN which compares the colour accuracy and gamut of a monitor to a CMYK print space.
It works using any CMYK ICC profile and can generate PDF reports and digitally sign a PDF file and uses ∆E76, or ∆E2000.

visit www.presssign.com/viewsign.php to download. (only supports the Eye-One display2, and Eye-One Pro - Mac and Windows)

The tests performed are similar to ISO 12647-7, so theres a Max, average ∆E, grey balance, paper and primary tests.

It's been very interesting to test various monitors and see actually how each one compares in colour gamut to a printer. Changing the white point can have a dramatic affect on the colour gamut, just for the reason that Lab values are measured relative to an illuminant. So you biggest colour gamut would be at the native whitepoint of your monitor. Unfortunately, most monitors seem to have a native whitepoint of 6000-7000K, so if we calibrate the whitepoint to 5000K, we then have a problem with displaying the correct yellow. Cyan can be a problem when calibrating to 6500K.

It's also interesting to see how long these monitors actually last. I've had reports of monitors loosing about 15% of their gamut after 6 months. Not good for a £1200 (€1400) monitor
