On the contrary, it seems highly likely to me that the OP was referring to a black body or daylight radiator as a specific target. The usual case is that we'd like a light source to precisely hit (say) the D50 white point. Evaluating a light source with one dimension (CCT) rather than two seems to be common, but is annoyingly sloppy.

What is more useful is an additional number, for instance the delta E
of the light source to same temperature on the target locus. Certainly
that's how I would evaluate it, although I prefer using a modern correlation
(minimum delta E 2000) rather than the out dated CIE 1960 UCS used for CCT.
