We run GMG thru some older 9600 Epsons at 720 dpi and our text and illustrations come out considerably thicker on our proofs than on our press sheets. I have tried running 1440 dpi ( slightly better.... but nothing to right home to ma about :-) I have also played around with sharpening in GMG to little avail. The pdf's are coming from Prinergy. Is there some bell or whistle I am missing to rectify this? Are the newer Epsons...... which we will be getting soon ....... any better in this regard? Thanks in advance for any light you may shed on this matter.

Hi Rick

Check the resolution in RipServer. This is where your PDF gets turned into a TIFF. I think the default is a ridiculous 360dpi or something. I saw a marked improvement when I upped it to 720, though files do take longer to process. I tested ripping at printing at 1440 vs. ripping and printing at 720 and couldn't detect a difference, but that initial jump from 360 to 720 is huge.
