Hey Brainiacs....

We run GMG thru some older 9600 Epsons at 720 dpi and our text and illustrations come out considerably thicker on our proofs than on our press sheets. I have tried running 1440 dpi ( slightly better.... but nothing to right home to ma about :-) I have also played around with sharpening in GMG to little avail. The pdf's are coming from Prinergy. Is there some bell or whistle I am missing to rectify this?

Let Prinergy rip to 720DPI (supposing you are outputting Tiff) and probably no (or a very low) Anti-alising and set print mode to 1440 dpi. If you output PDF's from prinergy you need to det the GMG Ripserver to Rip 720 with no anti aliasing and tiff LZW.
If you do dotproof the only thing you have to play with is the "fast dotproof" check box. Resolution is simply too low to dotproof anything above 120-130 lpi on the 9600.

Text will still be thicker than on press but this will get you as close as possible. The main problem is that the Epson really is printing at 720 dpi, or even a bot lower in reality (from memory there is only 360 printheads per inch) so there is only so much you can do.

You will get much finer text on a HP z2100 - worth considering when you need to upgrade the printer eventually.
