It could also be that one of the instruments (either theirs, or yours) is markedly out of spec due to drift caused by aging, or due to misuse (if it was dropped or otherwise hit, for example, or if the calibration tile is yellowed or stained, etc.).
There are many possible reasons why two instruments no longer work within reasonable tolerance of each other. But I agree with Danny that a large difference between two instruments (say, 2 DeltaE 2000, or higher) is far more likely to point to physical defects in one or both of the units, rather than to built-in differences in operation.
Also, remember that even the same EyeOne Pro will provide slightly different results in two or more separate readings of the same specimen, specially if you start cold (in which case the intensity of the built-in light source increases with use until it stabilizes). It's a good idea to warm up the unit before use, either by performing a "blank run" or two, or by hanging it in front of a monitor for 20 minutes or so.
Another good idea is to make more than one reading, and then average them.
