because 0 means "any" or "first" or "whatever you find" ! So, the sub types are explicit for the particular type of effect, or instrument, etc that you want based on the type you specify

It depends what you are doing. If you are using a particular one from Apple then we keep these available from release to release. If you want to do this dynamically - have a look at:


CocoaAUHost in /Developer/Examples/CoreAudio
