and that would be:

http://bugreporter.apple.com

As we do ask alot for developers to write bugs for us, and it does sometimes seem to us that we are begging you guys to do it, the URL has not changed :)

Hi Greg,

thanks for the pointer to the volume slider, that was very useful.

What you write about iPhone OS managing the routes for the user sounds
great, but the user should still be able to switch the routes if he
wants to. There is currently no easy way to let him do it:

The user can always switch routes if they want to. It's applications that don't get to set the route (not even Apple apps)... ;-)

The user selects routes by plugging things in/out. For routes that cannot be physically plugged in/out (eg. wireless devices like Bluetooth, or built-in devices like speaker), the route picker will show up next to the volume slider, and the user can use _that_ to plug those things in/out. (Note: both physical "plugs" and route- picker "plugs" are global "plug" operations by the user, potentially affecting all subsequent audio routing on the phone.)

If this is not true in some cases, please write a bug with the details (begreporter.apple.com), and mention the bug number on this email list, so I can make sure the bug gets to the right engineers.

A couple known idiosyncracies:

1. In a few cases (eg. Phone app, VoiceMail app), the user may see a Speaker button instead of a full route picker (ie. if there is no Bluetooth device connected). This "speaker button" option is not currently available to 3rd party app developers.
2. It's weird that the route picker icon is the Bluetooth icon, even though sometimes it doesn't have any Bluetooth devices in it.
