Tahome,

I can understand your frustration. In the past, we did have history of breaking the Xcode templates, but since then, we test thoroughly and regularly and do our best to ensure that the templates work correctly with every release.

I personally tried to reproduce your problem, and was unable to. Here is what I did:

1) Clean install of Leopard 10.5 from user dvd on my non-unibody 17" macbook pro
2) Install 10.5.8 via software update
3) Download Xcode 3.1.4 via developer.apple.com
4) Create a new project based on the "Audio Unit Effect with Cocoa View" project template
5) Select "Build" from the "Build" menu
6) Install the built component in ~Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components
7) Tested the built component using AULab

This worked just fine for me. I actually tried all four templates, and they all worked correctly.

Since your experience differs, we would like to understand why. We would like to also hear feedback from others if they are experiencing the same issues. We would also like to know if you are installing Xcode on top of a previous version. Please let us know in as much detail as possible what you are doing differently from the steps I outlined above.

Thank you.

Yeah, this is ridiculous... I don't know why they do this but they
seem to screw up the AU templates every other release. The Cocoa UI
template is broken as well (again!) in 3.1.4 on Leopard. Looks like
our friend the good old "ERROR: Cocoa Views Information cannot be
retrieved" is back. [SIGH]

I think it worked for one release after being broken for several
years, and now they did it again. Looks like they don't really want
people to develop AUs, though I fail to understand why...

Luckily, there is this replacement template that one of the AU plug in
gurus posted here a while ago which still works for me:

The problem with the demo is the extension of the MultitapDelayAU view
library. To make the demo work, select the MultitapDelayAU target,
and remove the Executable Extension under Packaging. Instead of "dylib",
this field should be empty.
Hope this helps.
