Hi!

IMHO, the best book Java is Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java. Check my web page for info/link: http://homepage.mac.com/I_love_my/webobjects.html

This however is not written as reference book. It may help you get started with Java itself as well as on specific tasks you will run into down the road. As for reference, there is JavaDoc.

Can someone recommend one?

I'm looking at 'Java in a Nutshell' by O'Reilly.
