I suspect that the server won't know anything about the user's actions as no request will be sent to it. I'd expect that the terminate method would get called when the session times out (but things would be out of date until this happens).

Another option would be to put some javascript in the page to send some sort of request in an onunload() event handler, but this could be tricky as it would be sent each time a new page is loaded as well.
