Janine,

I've been going for a number of years now and my feeling is that every year is a good year, especially if it is your first. If you are developing software on the Mac, are an IT admin working with Macs, and/or you have an outgoing personality (read: not afraid to ask questions), this is a must go event. While you can simply enjoy the show without participation, you get a lot more out of it by talking with Apple's engineers and participating in the Q&A sessions (Feedback Forums are my favorite part of the show). Also, once you go to WWDC you will never want to go to a consumer show again.

While the event is getting a lot larger these past two years, the access to Apple engineers is unprecedented. You literally spend the entire day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) with Apple employees. There is also something for everyone. As others mentioned, the WO sessions are often announced late. But there is always the WO/Java room to hang out in. The room is staffed with WO engineers and additional sessions are available (based on past years).

Also, the side effect is the event is a great networking tool. You spend 5 days with like-minded people with a passion for the work they do. The learning potential is huge.

Just my 2 cents. As you might guess, I am a big fan of WWDC. It is worth missing a week of work and playing catchup for a month :)

I've never been to a WWDC and I was thinking of going this year, but
so far I haven't heard of any WO-related content at all. The only
thing of use to me in the Development Tools track so far would be
using XCode, and I'm not sure that's worth the time and expense. Of
course, the description of the Track ends with "and more" and they
could have lots of WO goodness in the works. So what do you more
experienced WWDCers think - is this going to be a year to go, or a
year to stay home?
