your DirectAction class should be in anonymous package.
otherwise url will be like
wa/my.package.DirectAction/welcome

anyway if you are experimenting just try adding to your Main page a hyperlink to that welcome action (using WOHyperlink dynamic element) and see what url it renders into and how this url will work
