It does not look to be WO related unless the install added something to the path that is causing this:

Apr 30 10:27:09 cf.benisch.net.benisch.net /usr/bin/amavisd[53]: Net::Server: 2007/04/30-10:27:09 Insecure directory in $ENV{PATH} while running with -T\
switch at /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.8.6/Net/Server/Daemonize.pm line 70.\n\n at line 229 in file /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.8.6/ Net/Server.pm

Hello,

I am not sure which list is the most appropriate, so I'm posting this to webobjects-dev and macos-x-server....

We're experiencing a strange problem on one of our XServes running 10.4 Server:

the machine is our primary mail server, and also wanted to run our webobjects application on it.

the other day I logged into it via ssh and started womonitor and wotaskd using launchctl from the command line. The next day the server was restarted, and after that, email stopped working. All emails coming in from the outside were refused with this error in mail.log:

Apr 30 10:32:42 cf postfix/smtp[426]: connect to 127.0.0.1 [127.0.0.1]: Connection refused (port 10024)
Apr 30 10:32:42 cf postfix/smtp[426]: EECA01FDC2DB: to=<email@hidden>, relay=none, delay=1, status=deferred (connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Conne\
ction refused)

It turns out that amavis (part of the antivirus mail tools bundled with OS X Server was no longer starting properly. The error on startup was this:

Apr 30 10:27:09 cf launchd: org.amavis.amavisd: respawning too quickly! throttling
Apr 30 10:27:09 cf launchd: org.amavis.amavisd: 9 more failures without living at least 60 seconds will cause job removal
Apr 30 10:27:09 cf launchd: org.amavis.amavisd: will restart in 10 seconds

In amavis.log I see this:

Apr 30 10:27:08 cf.benisch.net.benisch.net /usr/bin/amavisd[53]: starting. /usr/bin/amavisd at cf.benisch.net.benisch.net amavisd- new-2.2.0 (20041102),\

Apr 30 10:27:08 cf.benisch.net.benisch.net /usr/bin/amavisd[53]: Perl version 5.008006
Apr 30 10:27:09 cf.benisch.net.benisch.net /usr/bin/amavisd[53]: Net::Server: 2007/04/30-10:27:09 Insecure directory in $ENV{PATH} while running with -T\
switch at /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.8.6/Net/Server/Daemonize.pm line 70.\n\n at line 229 in file /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.8.6/ Net/Server.pm
Apr 30 10:27:09 cf.benisch.net.benisch.net /usr/bin/amavisd[53]: Net::Server: 2007/04/30-10:27:09 Server closing!
Apr 30 10:27:09 cf.benisch.net.benisch.net /usr/bin/amavisd[53]: at the END handler: invoking DESTROY methods

We disabled the antivirus stuff for email and receive mail now, but we still see smtp-amavis errors in mail.log and some recipients never get our mail.

Has anyone else had this issue, or even better solved it? Its making us kind of crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg
