Hold on, of course I just found this:

Java type is Boolean and db type is BOOLEAN. When initially set, the attributes will work properly and will save to the database properly. The stored values look like "true" and "false". However, on subsequent retrieval, a call like aBooleanAttribute ().booleanValue will always return false. I have nothing set in the ValueType field in the model. Is there any setting that can use a java Boolean type that people have found reliable? Be nice not to have to change the existing code. Thanks.

Bill
