Hi Chuck,

it happens :-(. We use a delegate to order the inserts if needed.

Thanks, I was afraid that would be the answer. :-(

In SQL-Server 2005 there is a "WITH ( IGNORE_CONSTRAINTS )" table hint, but I never tried it.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187373.aspx

I looked at that but it seems that it is for batch operations only. It also totally ignores the constraints ("this can result in invalid data"), rather than just deferring them.

So, I am writing a delegate.

Chuck

Subject: MS SQL, EOF, Ordering Operations

Hi All,

I am working on supporting MS SQL2005 for an application that runs
under FrontBase now. One thing I stumbled upon is that MSSQL does
not support constraints that are DEFERRABLE INITIALLY DEFERRED. I
always use this for my FK constraints so that the sometimes random
ordering of statements by EOF does not cause FK constraint
violations. What do you MSSQL users do? Does this not happen? Do
you use a delegate to manually order them?

Anything else to watch out for on a database that does not yet
implement a 15 year old standard?

Thanks!

Chuck
