Other than price and "open-source-ness", are there disadvantages to

I have not used other tools. I have generated pdf using the iText
library but that feels like writing an app in assembly language.
You have to create your paragraphs, tables, cells, set fonts, etc.
all programatically. ReportMill is really nice and higher level in
comparison as you may know already. :-)
I don't think we have a problem with ReportMill being closed. The
problem is that the server deployment license costs money and if you
want to add servers you have to do the multiplication and it can add
up. :-) And also if you want to upgrade. And it seems like RM
comes up with new versions every so often. We started with version
4 (I think) and I think we're now using version 7. And last I
checked the latest version is 11. So we're way behind. And the
problem is that I can't run the ReportMill template editing app on
Snow Leopard. I would love to upgrade but that means upgrading the
servers also and paying.
We're worse, we are at version 5! But from the last 3 years, most
reports has been rewritten in FOXML.
