Gary's original question, quoted below, also asked where environment
variables are being set.
For tcsh (and csh) in 10.2.x systems, the first place to look is
/etc/csh.login
/etc/csh.cshrc
By default, you have no initialization files in your home directory,
and the above are used. If you do have a .cshrc or .tcshrc file in
your home directory it will be used (instead). Similarly .login.
For some fancier optional configuration, look in
/usr/share/tcsh/examples/
These files were used by default before 10.2, and were demoted, so to
speak, to examples in 10.2.
I don't have a 10.3 system handy to check how things might have
changed, but if I recall correctly, the files in /etc are still the
default.
For non-tcsh, non-csh shells, I have no idea.

Where does X11 decide or Dawin decide that I am to use the tsch
shell instead of the csch, I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I have a number of environmental variables being set and want to
know where in darwin theses are being set.
Normally I would look at my .profile / .login files but these
aren't there and I ain't no UNIX man so am at a bit of a loss.
Any pointer appreciated.
