Le mardi, 11 fiv 2003, ` 03:00 Europe/Paris, Vincent a icrit :

I updated to 0.2 today and tried to install gnome, using fink.
Try to post to the right list (Fink-Beginners list)
I forward the message, so keep an eye on this list
This is the error that i receive:
You have an existing X11 installation in /usr/X11R6 and /etc/X11.This package refuses to overwrite these. remove them, then tell fink to install xfree86-base again. ( The package won't be recompiled.) If you want to keep your X11 installation, install system-xfree86 resp. system-xtools instead to make this known to Fink's package system.
Press Return to continue.
dpkg: error processing /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/x11-system/xree86- base_4.2.1.1-3_darwin-powerpc.deb (--install):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
/sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/x11-system/xree86- base_4.2.1.1-3_darwin-powerpc.deb
###execution of dpkg failed, exit code 1
Failed can't install package xfree86-base-4.2.1-3

When I tried to follow the second suggestion, since I don't want to remove X11, I attempted to install system-x-free86. I received the following:

The following will be installed or updated:
system-x-free-86
dpkg -i /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/x11-system/system- xfree86_4.2-5_darwin-powerpc.deb
dpkg:
status database area is locked by another process
### execution of dpkg failed, exit code 2
Failed: can't install package system-xfree86-4.2-5

If anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong, I would be very grateful.
Thanx,
vince Diggins
