This is an known issue and cannot be fixed by X11 itself. It will have
to wait for the next major release of the OS. For now the workaround is
to logout and log back in.

Funny. After seing the post about this yesterday, I checked and
I am no longer getting these zombie processes since going to 0.2
on my powerbook, but still am on my dual processor G4 tower.
Anyone else have any experience with when the problem happens and
when not?
I'm definitely seeing them (TiBook, X11 0.2, 10.2.3). They'll hang
around until you log out, which is when they get handed off to init,
which will reap them. The bug is that the window server (the parent
of X11) doesn't appear to be waiting for its kiddies.
