No, no aftermarket printer drivers installed (that I know of). I have
a "clean" install of X11 0.2, no local .xinitrc (using Apple's
defaults). I start X from a dock icon, then start gv from my xterm.
My .tcshrc has two only lines:
setenv PATH {$PATH}:/usr/local/bin
source /sw/bin/init.csh
The only fink packages I've installed (at the moment) are: xv,
ghostscript, and gv. I haven't needed to mess around with extra
settings to get gv to print, just select the "print all" button. The
print dialog box just shows "lpr" as the print command.
One thing I noticed first time I printed is that output went to the
current default printer (as set by OS X's print center). Perhaps
"behind the scenes" Apple is setting things up so that lpr works?

Howdy,
I was wondering do you have gimp-print or some other aftermarket
printer driver installed? The reason I ask is that I could not print
Postscript via lpr using the default cups configuration because all of
my printer drivers wanted pdf and there is no ps->pdf filter. I wrote
one [one of those 5 minute tasks that takes all day :-( ] and now
everything works beautifully.
I am curious what was the difference between our systems as it just
seems to work for some people and not for others (at least me).
If there is any interest I can make my little filter available if this
actually is an issue for anyone.

Just try printing, you might be pleasantly surprised! I had just
installed ghostview (gv) via fink, loaded a postscript article and
tried printing. Ghostview sent the output to lpr, but otherwise gave
no feedback. I looked up the job in CUPS and... whoa... says it's
been printed on (my last selected) printer! I went to check and,
yes, it was sitting at the printer.
Very cool. I *love* it when things work automagically.

Greetings
Is it possible to print from X11 apps? If so, how do you set it up?
Is
there anything I can read on this?
