This is odd, or maybe there is something I don't know. If I go to
preferences -> security and check either button, then the entries in
com.apple.x11 are changed accordingly.

Me too. The open thing I have is port 22 (sshd) so that I can ssh _into_
the mac from my workstation. I don't think using ssh -X to connect to
remote machines changes anything.
