I don't see anyone mentioning "xhost" in this discussion. When I regularly used X11 between machines, one had to authorize the use of one machine from another, which is what xhost does.

On machineA execute "xhost +machineB" where 'machineB' is the name you're using to connect to machineB.

Or, if you're willing to allow any machine on the network to use machineA for displays, just type "xhost +"

The following commands may also be useful:  "man xhost"  "man xauth" .
