I am quite sure that putting the laptop to sleep does not affect X11
directly, it is the change in the network connection.
I noticed that sometimes I have the X11-refusing-new-connections problem
on my Ti-book and sometimes I don't when I change the network
connection. I have a DHCP wireless network at home and a fixed-IP wire
connection in my office. I use the Location manager to change the
configuration. I just now noticed that I could avoid the X11
authentication problem this way:
I started X11 at home where the hostname was
"Eric-Fieldings-Titanium.local." and then I put it to sleep and carried
it to work. I then woke it up from sleep before connecting to the
network. I then changed the Location to my office before connecting to
the network cable. This forced the Mac to keep the same hostname and X11
is still happy. I can open new windows, etc. even after connecting to
the network.
Yesterday, I connected the cable before changing the Location. That
caused the Mac to change the hostname to the one that matches the IP
address at work and it caused X11 to refuse any new connections until I
restarted it. At least it starts fast!
I have my X11 Security preference both set to "false".
Your mileage may vary.
Cheers,
++Eric

Yes, I experience the same problem, and I find it to be hugely annoying.
Every time I move my laptop from home to work (or vice versa!) I need
to restart X11. What a waste of processor cycles!
